Card Text
THE MAP ITSELF [Navigators sigil]
Navigators — Schema (Structure)
At the start of each of your turns, look at the top
card of your Archive and the top card of your
opponent's Archive. For each, you may put that card
on the bottom of its Archive instead of leaving it on
top.
Once per turn, you may look at one card in your
opponent's hand.
"The odds were never a mystery. Someone just had to
write them down."
Codex Entry
Originally designed under the working title "The Map That Shows Everything," shortened for the printed title plate — the longer name wrapped to two lines at title size and ate into the art band. The shorter name creates a deliberate echo with the Architects' own Apex Schema, The Network Itself: both cards name the moment a faction's tool stopped being a tool and became indistinguishable from the thing itself. For the Architects, that's their infrastructure. For the Navigators, it's their model of the world.
The flavor text's antithesis grounds the faction's entire philosophy in one line: the Navigators never claimed mystical foresight. They stopped asking how to control the Singularity and started asking where it was going — this Schema is that question, answered as completely as the format allows.
How This Card Plays
The Map Itself is the purest expression of the Navigators' info-over-force identity in the set: no damage, no Resilience, no Clock advance. Every turn, it lets you look at the top card of both Archives — your own and your opponent's — and choose to bottom either one instead of leaving it on top. Once per turn, separately, you may look at one card in your opponent's hand.
This is the founding set's only bidirectional Archive-top control and its only hand-visibility effect. It doesn't win games by itself — it wins them by making sure you're never surprised and your opponent frequently is.
Rulings & Interactions
- Neither effect draws cards. Looking, reordering, and peeking are the entire function — pair this Schema with your own draw effects to convert the information into cards in hand.
- As a Structure Schema, it isn't attached to an Agent and has no interaction with Withdraw — it stays in the Grid independently until an effect removes it directly.
- The once-per-turn hand-peek is a separate activation from the start-of-turn Archive-top effect; using one doesn't consume or gate the other.
Collector Notes
Because this is a Schema rather than an Agent, it carries no Resilience, no faction matchup row, and no Withdraw cost — those three stats exist only on Agent cards (rules/02-card-anatomy.md). Its approved art continues the tunnel-and-map visual motif established for Navigator Apex-tier cards, with no legible real-world transit signage in frame.
