He built everything the Singularity needed to exist."

Codex Entry

Architects go by one name — the surname, the one on the documentation. First names exist; they're rarely used professionally. Kavond is known by his alone, which tells you where the faction's identity actually sits: not in the person, in the work.

The flavor text's antithesis is the clearest single-line statement of the Architects' mandated weakness in the whole set. He never built the thing everyone's afraid of. He built the relay arrays, the conduit corridors, the foundational Signal protocols — every piece of infrastructure the Singularity needed to be possible at all. Denial of direct responsibility sitting next to total acknowledgment of structural cause is the exact shape of the faction's worldview: design is control, right up until it's the thing that made the uncontrollable possible.

How This Card Plays

Kavond's Deploy is an unconditioned full-Archive search for any Schema, straight into your hand — the fastest way in the set to start building toward the 3-Schema board both his moves want.

Both moves carry CALIBRATE, so their printed ⚡3 Surge drops by 1 per Schema he sees on your board at resolution — with 3 Schemas up, either move costs the Clock nothing. CONDUIT PRESS is a 6-damage poke that becomes 9 once you're at 3+ Schemas. NETWORK BIND is the founding set's strongest control effect: at 3+ Schemas, it locks the target Agent out of using moves for two full turns, for zero Clock cost. Without the infrastructure, though, Kavond is the highest-Surge Apex Agent in the game — the tension between "fully set up" and "not yet set up" is the entire card, and the entire faction.

Rulings & Interactions

  • CALIBRATE recalculates at the moment the move resolves — if an opponent destroys one of your Schemas with a Reactive Protocol in response to the move, the Surge reduction shrinks accordingly.
  • Only Kavond's controller's Schemas count for CALIBRATE and for the 3-Schema conditions on both moves — an opponent's Schemas are irrelevant to either calculation.
  • NETWORK BIND's 2-turn lock is the longest single move-lock duration printed in the founding set.

Collector Notes

Kavond's name follows the Architects' naming grammar — sibilants, hard stops, CVC·CVC rhythm (world-bible/02-naming-grammar.md), from the kavond- root: cavern, the beneath, the infrastructure corridors. His art sets a small, formally-dressed figure against vast hexagonal Architects infrastructure geometry — the scale contrast is deliberate: the person is small, the system he built is not.
